New Enterprise Zone development underway to meet investor demands

Henry Boot Developments Limited (HBD) has announced that it is progressing speculative development of a 100,000 sq ft warehouse and office building at its Markham Vale business and distribution park in Derbyshire.

Following planning approval last week  the developer  has confirmed that it intends to start building on site within the next six weeks meaning that the unit could be available for occupation as soon as March 2015.

Markham Vale is a 200 acre business/industrial park located at Junction 29A of the M1 in Chesterfield.  The regionally significant site is a joint venture between Henry Boot Developments and Derbyshire County Council and is one of the UK’s biggest Enterprise Zone developments.

The commitment from HBD to build speculative on the site reflects increased demand for industrial space in the region and very strong interest from potential occupiers.

Ben Ward at HBD commented: “We are delighted to receive planning consent for the building which will offer distribution/manufacturing space to a very high specification.  We are already engaging with potential occupiers and are confident that the building will bring significant investment and employment opportunities to the region.”

Councillor Joan Dixon, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs, Economy and Transport, commented: “This is a really exciting time for Markham Vale with development really starting to gain pace.

“This warehouse will provide yet another excellent opportunity for a business to relocate or set-up at Markham and benefit from all it has to offer − including excellent transport links right next to the M1.”

The development is part funded by the £14.2m Enterprise Zone grant announced in June.

James Newman, Chairman of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), commented: “The LEP has been working closely with developers, the Council and Government to secure funding to build ready-made sites for global businesses wanting to set-up in the Sheffield City Region. I am very pleased to see that our hard work is paying off.

“These new developments will help the City Region to keep up with mounting investor demand for medium-sized business units as well as larger areas for bigger investors.

“Our partners at Henry Boot Developments are now ready to start creating the next generation of modern business spaces for companies looking to be part of the Enterprise Zone at Markham Vale. This development marks another exciting step forward for our Zone, which has already welcomed 18 new companies with 345 new jobs created on the Zone and around 300 set to be created in the coming months.

“I look forward to seeing the new buildings open in March 2015 and welcoming the next wave of investors to the Sheffield City Region Enterprise Zone.”

Markham Vale offers a diverse range of industrial, warehouse and office accommodation ranging from 3,000 sq ft units to over 1 million sq ft.  Buildings are available on freehold or leasehold terms, to suit occupier requirements.  Existing occupiers include Andrew Page, Holdsworth Foods, Ready Egg Products, Gould Alloys and Industrial Ancillaries.
